My wife and I tried out several different kinds of infant life vests and could not find one that fit our 4 month old comfortably. All the vests we tried were too blocky and were too restrictive around the neck. We finally found this one and decided to give it a shot. The minute we pulled it out of the box we could tell it was a winner. The vest is contoured to fit an infant far better than any other vests we’ve tried. The neck is also more relaxed, with a v-shaped cut which is much more comfortable.
If this is your first time taking your infant out on the water make sure and put this vest on him or her and get them used to wearing it around the house for a week or so before you go. This way when you venture out on the water wearing the vest won’t be so unfamiliar or uncomfortable.
As far as floatation goes, keeping the baby’s head up is always a concern. I am not certain how well an infant’s head will be held out of the water because we haven’t tried to float our little guy in it yet. From my experience even toddlers have trouble keeping heads up because they simply do not have enough weight in their lower body to keep them from bobbing all around in the water. But if you are looking for a protective life vest truly designed for infants to wear comfortably this is it.
